Privacy policy

Bansaawali is an online platform where families keep their family trees (वंशावली). Each family or group has its own space, for example pokharel.bansaawali.com, run by its own family administrators. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and your choices. It applies to bansaawali.com, all its family spaces, and the Pokharel family's earlier address while it stays open.
What we collect
- Your account: your name and email address, and your phone number if you give it.
- How you are connected: when you ask to join a family space, the family, group or birta you belong to, the person in the tree you are linked to, and possibly your father's, grandfather's and great-grandfather's names and places, so the family administrator can confirm who you are.
- The family tree: names, family relationships, generations, and details members add (such as spouse, residence, events, photos or remarks).
- Records of changes: who added, proposed, approved or changed what, and when, so mistakes can be traced and undone.
- Technical data: basic server logs (such as time and pages requested) kept for a short time for security and fixing problems.
Sign in with Google
If you choose "Sign in with Google", Google shares only your name, email address, profile picture and a Google account number (the "openid", "email" and "profile" permissions). We keep your name, email address and account number, and use them only to create your account and sign you in. We do not keep the picture. We never see your Google password and get no access to your Gmail, contacts, calendar or files. We do not sell this information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except as needed to run the service. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Sign in with an emailed code
We can send a one-time code to your email address through our email provider (Brevo). The code expires after 10 minutes.
Cookies
We use one cookie that keeps you signed in across bansaawali.com and its family spaces. During Google sign-in a second cookie lasts up to 10 minutes. Your language choice is remembered in your own browser. There are no tracking or advertising cookies.
Who can see information
- Family spaces are private. New accounts wait until an administrator approves them, and signed-out visitors see no family information. In future a family may be able to choose other settings for its own space.
- Guests approved by a family see names and how people are connected (lineage) only.
- Members approved by a family see the family details that family has recorded.
- Private details (phone, email, birth date, address, photos, and the ancestor names and places you give when asking to join) are seen only by you and that family's administrators, and by the platform administrator when needed to run or protect the service.
- If links between families are added in future (for example a daughter married into another family), they will be shown only when both families allow it.
We do not sell your information
We never sell or rent personal information and show no advertising based on it. Some optional features may be paid in future (for example printed family books or extra photo storage). Payments would be handled by a payment provider; we would not store card details.
Who helps us run the service
- A hosting provider for our server, Cloudflare for secure connections and email forwarding, Brevo for sending emails, and Google for "Sign in with Google". They process data only to provide their service to us.
Where it is kept and how it is protected
On our own server, with encrypted (HTTPS) connections, access limited to administrators, and regular backups. Each family space's data is kept separately.
How long we keep it
Account information is kept while your account is active. Family-tree information is kept as part of the family's history until the family administrators or you ask for it to be corrected or removed. Backups are replaced over time.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, download or delete your account and the information about you, or to be removed from a family tree. A family administrator can ask for a copy of their family's data, or for it to be deleted. Write to [email protected]. We follow Nepal's Individual Privacy Act, 2075 (2018), and respect similar rights of people in other countries.
Children
Accounts are for people aged 16 or older. Children may appear in a family tree when added by their family; parents or guardians can ask for details to be corrected or hidden.
Changes
We may update this policy as the platform grows. The date at the top shows the latest version; important changes will be announced on the site.

Google बाट साइन इन
"Google बाट साइन इन" रोज्दा Google ले तपाईंको नाम, इमेल, प्रोफाइल फोटो र Google खाता नम्बर मात्र दिन्छ। हामी नाम, इमेल र खाता नम्बर राख्छौं, र खाता बनाउन र साइन इन गराउन मात्र प्रयोग गर्छौं। फोटो राख्दैनौं। तपाईंको Google पासवर्ड, Gmail, सम्पर्क वा फाइलहरू हामी देख्दैनौं। यो जानकारी बेचिँदैन, विज्ञापनमा प्रयोग हुँदैन। Google API बाट पाएको जानकारीको प्रयोग Google API Services User Data Policy (Limited Use सहित) अनुसार हुन्छ।
